Double Dip Restrictions

All majors are required to complete the University of Oregon general degree requirements for either a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in addition to the departmental major requirements listed below.

BA/BS in Art (majors admitted prior to Fall 2003)

66 total credits

Foundation course must be passed with at least a C-

note: one course Understanding Contemporary Media may replace
one Drawing or one Basic Design

BA/BS in Art (majors admitted Fall 2003 or later)

* 1 course in 3 different curricular areas

** 24 upper division credits

* Prior to graduation, students must take at least one course (200 level or above) in at least three different curricular areas within the department: ceramics, fibers, metalsmithing and jewelry, multimedia design, painting, photography, printmaking, and sculpture.

** As prerequisites to upper division course work, students must complete ART 115 Basic Design: Fundamentals, ART 116 Basic Design: 3D, one Drawing class, and one 200 level studio course prior to enrollment in other studio courses at the 200 and 300 level.

** Residency: must complete 24 studio credits at the University of Oregon;
12 of these must be upper division.

BFA in Art, Ceramics, Fibers, Metalsmithing & Jewelry, Photography, Painting, Printmaking or Sculpture - over the 5 years

108 total credits

Satisfaction of BA/BS degree requirements plus additiontal 3 terms which include:

Minor in Art

Administrative note:
The department encourages students to declare a Art minor at least 3 quarters before graduating. At the time of declaration, they may be assigned a department advisor to aid them in development of an individual program.

*Multimedia Minor Rules:
Students must sign up for and pass each of the 7 required classes with a GRADED option. Graded classes must be passed with at least a C-. All credits for the multimedia minor must be taken while in residence at the University of Oregon.
No transfer credit will be accepted.

Double Major and Double Degree Restrictions

Digital Art majors may not minor in Multimedia.

Digital Art majors may minor in Art. We will allow them to double-dip 2 Basic Designs, 1 Drawing, and the 2 Art History courses required for the minor and major.
All other courses required for the Art minor may not be counted for the Digital Arts major, nor will the digital art courses count toward the Art minor.

Art majors may not minor in Art.

Art majors may minor in Multimedia.
We will only count ARTD 360 Digital Imaging and 1 course ARTD 250, 251, or 252 as studio credit for the Art major.

Students may major in both Art and Digital Arts.
We will allow them to double-dip 2 Basic Designs, 1 Drawing, 1 course ARTD 250, 251, or 252, and the 3 Art History courses.
All other courses required for the Art major may not be counted for the Digital Arts major, nor will the Digital Arts courses count toward the Art major.

Students may minor in both Art and Multimedia.
However, we will not allow any double-dipping of classes to fulfill both requirements.

Students may not receive concurrent degrees in Art and Digital Arts, ie: BFA in Art and BA/BS in Digital Arts or BFA in Digital Arts and BA/BS in Art. Concurrent degrees must be from different schools/colleges.
