Kate Wagle joined the UO Art faculty in 1994 and was been Head of the Department of Art 1999 through 2008. She taught previously at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, New Mexico State University, Montana State University, Oregon School of Arts and Crafts and Portland State University. She has lectured and presented workshops at schools and universities around the country including Cranbrook Academy of Art, University of Washington, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, and Penland School of Crafts.

Her work has been shown nationally and internationally since 1981. She is a recognized innovator in her field, writes for national publications and received a National Endowment for the Arts Individual Artist Fellowship from Arts Midwest in 1994. She is currently chair of the Editorial Advisory Board of Metalsmith Magazine. Educational credentials include an MFA degree from Arizona State University and a BS from Portland State University.

recognition & previous shows

Research has resulted in grants awarded by the Arts Midwest Regional NEA (Individual Artist Grant, 1993-94), an AAA Faculty Development and Research Award to study Italian Ex-votos (Summer, 1996), and national and international exhibitions including Signals: Late Twentieth-Century American Jewelry, Cranbrook Art Museum and Musee de Arts Decoratifs de Montreal, 1996-98, Cross Currents, A Contemporary Survey of Jewelry, scheduled to travel in Great Britain and Europe 1996-98. Her work was featured as a cover article in Metalsmith Magazine in Summer, 1999, and her research on Italian Ex-votos was also published in Metalsmith in Spring, 1998. Her work has also been featured in various publications including American Craft Magazine, Ornament Magazine, and "Four Seasons of Jewelry, (Japanese periodical).

Workshops and papers presented by Professor Wagle include workshops at Penland School of Art and Arrowmont School of Crafts in 1997, "Adornment, Form and Meaning", slide lecture, Jewelry and Metals Symposium,University of Washington, 1995, "Conceptual Adornment", paper and workshop, University of Illinois, 1995, "Die-forming Embossed Multiples", workshop, Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, 1994"Beyond Adornment", workshop, Kent Blossom Festival School, Kent State University, 1994, and "Quality", a panel presentation and discussion, New Art Forms Exposition, Navy Pier, Chicago, in 1993.
