Carla Bengtson is currently an Associate Professor in the Painting and Drawing program at the University of Oregon and is an Associate Member of the Environmental Studies Program at the university. Previously to coming to the UO in 1995, she taught at Yale University, Connecticut College, Wesleyan University, and the University of Connecticut, and was Head Curator of the John Slade Ely House, Center for Contemporary Art in New Haven, Connecticut.
Professor Bengtson has received an NEA Individual Grant for Artists from the Connecticut Commission on the Arts and numerous awards and grants from the University of Oregon, the Oregon Commission on the Arts, Yale University, and is represented in multiple public and private collections. She holds a BFA Magna Cum Laude, 1980, from Tyler School of Art, Temple University, and an MFA, 1983, from Yale School of Art, Yale University, and was a two-time participant in the Whitney Independent Study Program of the Whitney Museum of American Art.
