Students are encouraged to investigate strategies which pertain to their theatre of interest, allowing for the development of an eclectic and democratic range of research.

UO Photography Undergraduate programs and graduate programs are tightly linked, creating a strong sense of community within the area. Students at all levels are given a great deal of individual attention by faculty. A strong visiting artist program sponsors national figures in photography. An expanded summer program offers unique workshops such as mural printing, public art, alternative processes, and the Malheur Workshop in the Eastern Oregon desert.

graduate study in photography

Our graduate photography program accommodates 4-8 students at any given time, who come here to study for 2 or 3 years, and who come from all parts of the country. Studies here are based heavily on individual research and exploration. The graduate seminar in photography serves as a forum for the evaluation and discussion of graduate work on an ongoing basis. Students, in their first year, are encouraged to take graduate/undergraduate offerings within the photography area.

UO Photography A diversity of courses such as large format, non-silver, color, constructivist image making, advanced photography, and contemporary issues/theory, allows us to offer a wide range of directions in both process and theory. Students are also encouraged to involve themselves in other media and disciplines. Many graduate students, for example, take advantage of classes such as computer imaging, installation art, and special theory seminars.

The photography area encourages a wide range of working strategies, allowing the graduate student to pursue his/her work based on the form that is best suited. A strong sense of community exists within the photography area with extensive interaction between graduate and undergraduate levels.
