ARTC 459/559 Advanced Studio Forum (4-6R) Combined studio and discussion for BFA and MFA students provides a forum for works in progress in the context of professional practice and contemporary critical thinking. Prereq: BFA or MFA standing.
ARTC 468 Glaze Fire I (6R) Comprehensive instruction in firing theory and practice and elementary glaze chemistry. Students fire kilns and mix glazes in a studio component. Prereq: instructor's consent. R once for a maximum of 12 credits.

ARTF 253 Off-Loom Textiles (3-5 R) An introductory fibers studio course exploring fiber contsruction such as basketry, crochet, netting or fabric piecing and embellishment such as patchwork, applique, stitching. Topics vary. R three times for a maximum of 20 credits.
ARTF 267 Weaving (3-5 R) Introduction to weaving on 4-shaft floorloom. Experimentation with a variety of fibers, pattern weave, and tapestry. Topics vary term. R three times for a maximum of 20 credits.
ARTF 358 Natural Dyeing (3-5 R) Explore color through natural dyes on natural fibers. Students learn to identify and responsibly gather dyestuffs from the environment. Use traditional dyestuffs like indigo, cochineal, madder and logwood. R three times for a maximum of 20 credits.
ARTF 456/556 Advanced Fibers (3-5 R) Further explore both fiber and fabric techniques on and off-loom. Emphasizes design, honing skills, critical review, and the development of personal expression. ARTF 458/558 Textile Printing (3-5R) Dyeing and dye processes that explore pattern design and cloth embellishment. Includes block printing, stamping, stenciling, quilting, resist techniques. Focuses on creative work. ARTF 358 recommended.

ARTR 346 Intro to Relief Printing Woodcut, linoleum cut methods, single-and-multiple-color techniques of reduction cut, multiple blocks, stencils, and registration principles. Emphasis personal imagery development and technical skills. Prereqs: 2 terms of ART 233
ARTR 347 Intro to Intaglio Students will learn all fundamental techniques used in intaglio printmaking on copper plates including: etched line, aquatint, soft ground, white ground, sugar-lift, dry point, scraping, burnishing and engraving. Students will also express their own visual ideas in their etchings, learning to develop personal images with attention to image, content, value and composition. The experience of drawing is fundamental to the course. Prereqs: ART 233
ARTR 410/510 Experimental Screenprinting Exploration of unorthodox imaging approaches with screenprint. Monotypes, mixed media, and other permutations of stencil printing will be emphasized. Prerequisites 1 term screenprinting or equivalent.
ARTR 446/546 Intermediate/Advanced Relief and Intaglio Relief printing emphasizes color techniques, chine colle', wood engraving, monotype, relief etching, and woodcut. Intaglio includes color methods with multiple plates, a la poupee, and photo processes. Focuses on personal imagery development. Prerequisites ARTR 346 or 347
ARTR 448/548 Screenprinting Clarification and maturation os student's personal artistic direction is the aim. Inventiveness, imaginativeness, and analytical skills are fostered with that aim in mind. Prerequisites ARTR 348 or equivalent Open to all students with priority to majors.
ARTR 449/549 Lithography The intermediate level of litho includes introduction to planning and executing work in multiple colors, as well as other techniques building upon material introduced at the beginning level. It is assumed that persons making a commitment of this kind have begun to find a personal direction and creative momentum in their work. Prerequisites ARTR 349, ART 233
